A faucet aerator (or tap aerator) is a device that can installed onto the tip of a modern indoor water faucet head, creating a non-splashing stream and possibly delivering a mixture of water and air.

Faucet aerators are often installed in order to:

• prevent splashing
• conserve water and reduce energy costs
• increase perceived water pressure

Sometime the aerator is already included in the faucet. Then a Faucet aerator is a device that can be installed in a sink to reduce water use (Jensen, 1991).
